Tonite I will go to bed early... and set my alarm for 1am! I'll be joining my girl-friends for a Royal Wedding Celebration Party at the La Quinta Country Club! My husband thinks it's silly--but we are are going to have a royal-good time!
It's been nearly 30 years since people gathered around their television
sets to watch a fairytale wedding an ocean away.
So Friday's nuptials between Prince William and his princess-to-be, Kate Middleton, are giving the Coachella Valley's British residents an excuse to pop open the bubbly, break out the trifle bowl and throw parties with a royal romance theme.
“The Brits love a wedding. It makes them feel good,” said Jennifer Murray, who spends winters away from England playing golf at La Quinta Country Club.
She and Susan Weir expect about 30 guests for their girls-only party, coordinated to begin with live television coverage at 1 a.m.
The dress code is pajamas, tiaras and pearls. White gloves are optional.
“A lot of women worldwide watch it on their own,” Murray said. “It's a girl's thing, a woman's thing, and men don't understand it. They all think we're mad here."
