Best Hiking in the Desert

Best Hiking Trail in the Desert as voted by readers of the Desert Sun!

The Bump and Grind Trail continues to be the best and most popular hiking trail in the Coachella valley!  Also known as the Mirage Trail, it is centrally located, has mostly wide paths, and sweeping panoramic views.  This steep foot trail can be executed only by the most fit mountain bikers. The Bump and Grind trail starts with a very steep, switchback climb, that zig-zags straight up about 600 feet up the mountain face. Follow the fire road to your left all the way up, to the top. Bring plenty of water- because this climb will test your cardio output, and make you work to get to the top!

Your reward for making the 1000ft climb, are sweeping, panoramic views of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and a brake-heating downhill run. Watch for foot traffic, and stay cool!  Find the trailhead behind the Desert Crossing shopping center on Painter's Path, south of Fred Waring Drive.
